Oh those Crazy, Hazy, Lazy days of Summer

Summer is merely just a couple of days away! I really do not have any major plans...which is probably best! My sisters graduation went well she is officially a college freshman//weird// Memorial day is a day away...ahhh three days of rest!!

Side note how amazing is this...it is a good thing I do not live in London

Maybe I shall travel to London over the summer and pay a visit to Susannah Hunter!

Not so little anymore

My little sister, Molly, is graduating on Saturday! I still am in shock that she is actually graduating high school. Not that I did not think she could accomplish the task, but rather that she is old enough to be done with high school.

I remember when she was sooo dependent on every little thing and now she is driving and about to go to college! I actually thought about suggesting to some of her teachers that they fail her so she could stay in high school forever...makes me sound younger having a sibling in high school, but I guess my little sister is getting older and is no longer all that little...even though I am taller than her! \\//Congratulations Molly!!!\\//

Availability over Ability

I am going to be completely honest with you...I really do not know where this post might lead...it could go down two roads: 1. disability or 2. religious.

I do however like the concept of "availability over ability." If you have all the ability in the world, but are not available to invest in other peoples lives that you just might be wasting your ability.

//RELIGIOUS//
Our abilities may take us places, but if we are not available to go where God wants us to go then whats the point? I believe God is more interested in us being available to Him rather than us showing off all our abilities to the world. God desires us to be available rather than consumed with what we can profit from in our abilities. When we allow ourselves to be availiable to God he will take us farther than any ability on this earth ever could!

//DISIBILITY//
Not everyone is able, but everyone is available. Everyone is available to be reached despite what ability might be lacking. Do not look at the lack of ability and think "well why try to do this or that...what is the point?" How do you know if they are not able unless you try. You have to be avaliable to let any abilities shine!

Abilities might open up possibilities, but if we are not avaliable than why be abled?

The World Truely is Flat

I really cannot stand white walls!! I blame this on the fact that I have moved a lot in my life...painting the walls white when we move and then moving into a place with white walls. I guess you can say I have had my fill of whiteness.

Well can you guess what color my classroom walls are?? WHITE! UGH...I have pretty much done my best to cover the whiteness with student work and posters, but the whiteness still seeps in!

Thankfully I have discovered a way to make the whiteness disappear...well at least one white wall. Urban Outfitters has an atlas tapestry to hang on a wall or use as a bed spread. Since I do not have a bed in my room I will be hanging this Little beauty on one of my four white walls. I am pretty siked about my find!!!

The tapestry is light weight and comes in just one color. Aqua...I know the picture is orange, but mine is aqua. I plan on hanging my world the beginning of next year. All I have to do now is figure out a way to hang it up! Suggestions??

Naples Museum of Art

So while I was apartment shopping I found myself in north Naples where I found an art museum! I love art!! I know it might sound strange, but I feel uplifted after viewing art...it's very therapeutic. This museum had a lot of blown glass hanging around as well as a very strange wooden red hand puppet that you could touch and it acted like a real hand...a little creepy!!

The BIG 5-0

Well today my sister, Molly, donated her hair to locks of love and I am merly 50 days away from my big cut!

On days were I can not stand the length of my hair I am reminded of how blessed I am to have a healthy head of hair!!

I am debating wether or not I should grow my hair out again for a third time. The first donation was for my grandma, this donation is for Mrs. Jackie and as of lately my music minister is fighting cancer...so the third time will be for Mr. Martin. I am trying not to think about growing my hair out again (it is such a pain) but it's the right thing to do!

So I supose after June 30th I will yet again start a new journey to grow my hair out to be donated! After all the Lord is GOOD to me...I NEED to return the favor!!!

Practicing the P word

For those of you who are unaware of what the P word is let me inform you that it stands for...Patience...
I obviously had difficulty being patient today otherwise I would not be writing about the dreaded P word.
I usually consider myself to be a patient person, but today was a different story. I litterly told a student that they were walking on thin ice...of course they did not know what that meant...which did not make the situation any better.
On my way home I was listening to the radio trying to unwind from the day when a new song from MercyMe came on called This Life.
In the song I was reminded that earth is not my home//whew what a relief// everything on earth is temporary...where I am now is not where I will be for eternity...it's simply not my place!
So on days were I cannot get comfortable, am going out of my mind or have difficulty practicing the P word I need to remember that I am only on earth for a short time.
I need to make the most of it and not waste a minute. Every moment is a chance to let Christ's love and light break through. I need to seek after Him even if my day is the pits. Practicing the P word may be difficult, but if I am going to be an example I better start eating more apples with the P word written all over it!!

Mom, Mother, Mum and Madre

Tomorrow is mother's day. So in the spirit of the day my sister and I gathered some goodies for our mom!

In all reality no gift could show her how grateful we are for all that she does, but at least we tried.

//Here is what we found\\
-A cute little tea cup with a monogrammed H on it
-Three bath and body works lip gloss
-Neco waffers
-Say yes to carrots body butter
-Pez dispenser
-Earrings that were a steal!

So go out and spend some quality time with your mother tomorrow! If it was not for her you would not be here!!

Luv Ya mom!!

Fluff puff

Do not let your words be mindless fluff floating in the air. Your words should be able to be planted and produce fruit for others to enjoy.
I once had a professor who choose her words very carefuly. Whenever I spoke with her I could tell, by the way she spoke, that every words was chosen with care. I try my best to be careful with what words come out of my mouth!

Like I tell my students...your tongue is a powerful weapon, you have the power to build someone up or tear someone down!

Keep your labels to yourself

Taking the 'dis' out of disability

I have never been to fond of the word disability for many reasons:
1. Typically when someone hears the word disability they start treating the person differently or start looking for the disability
2. Just because a person has a disability does not mean they have no ability at all
3. A person is much more than a label

Truth be told the word that I shy away from defines who I am. Yes, I have a specific learning disability. My disability is mainly in auditory processing in reading and math. Reading is no longer an issue any more. I might need more time to comprehend what I am reading, but I have adapted. Now math is a different story. If you were to sit in front of me and strictly teach me a lesson in math just by using your words; the information will literally go in one ear and out the other. Unfortunately, I have acquired years upon years of perfecting my talent of tuning out math. Anything that has the slightest resemblance of math I turn the other direction!

I will probably be blogging a lot about disabilities because it plays such a huge role in my life. Today, I want to focus on the word disability and how changing our words could change our perception on what a disability is.

I love looking up words in the dictionary! So of course I looked up the prefix of disability...dis here is what I found: belittle, criticism and lack of something

//not to uplifting is it//

Now on to the second half of the word in disability...ability: competence in an activity or occupation because of one's skill, training or other qualification. Talents, expertness, special skills and aptitude

//paints a different picture doesn't//

Lets see what happens when dis and ability colide to form the word disability: lack of adequate power, strength, physical or mental ability, incapacity, one that prevents a person from living a full, normal life or from holding a gainful job and disquilification.

//how would you like that to define you//

It is sad to think that 10 little letters could have such a huge impact in someones life. Perhaps next time you encounter someone who has a disability look for the ability first instead of what they are lacking!

"Disability is not a brave struggle or 'courage in the face of adversity.' Disability is an art. It's an ingenious way to live" Neil Marcus

Well hello store of my dreams!

Today, I took a little field trip to Naples. For months I have been drooling over Anthropologie over the Internet...sad, but true! I find Anthropologie inspirational. Despite the fact that a lot of cash would have to be spent to buy any clothing...I do love the way they put outfits together and mingle in jewelry that adds a nice flare. And their home decoration department//oh dear//I thought nothing could top Ikea, but there is another contender! I could go on, but I will spare you. If I could live in any store Anthro would be my choice.
